Armor

Rating / Durability: Armor provides a bonus to a character’s Bashing and Lethal Soak. The first number reflects a bonus the armor provides against weapons that bludgeon and bruise a target (bashing damage.) The second number reflects a bonus the armor provides against weapons the cut and pierce a target (lethal damage.)
The durability of armor is equal to its Bashing and Lethal values added together, and is only used if a target is attempting to rend an target’s armor.

Strength / Size: Armor is often heavy and cumbersome. If your character does not have sufficient Strength to use it, she cannot perform at peak efficiency. If your character’s Strength is lower than that required for the armor, her Physical Skills suffer a -1 penalty when used.
A piece of armor’s Structure is equal to its Durability + Size, and is only used if a target is attempting to rend an target’s armor.

Defense Penalty: The penalty imposed on your character’s Physical Defense Value for the armor worn.

Speed Penalty: The penalty imposed on your character’s Speed trait for the armor worn.

Cost: The minimum dots in the Resources Merit usually required to purchase the armor.

Armor or barding purchased for creatures larger than Size 5 or smaller than Size 4 adds one dot to the Cost rating for every two points the creature’s Size exceeds 5 or by every 1 point the creature’s Size falls below 4.

Shields

Rating / Durability: Shields provide a bonus to a character’s Physical Defense Value equal to the number listed.
The durability of a shield is equal to the Rating, and is only used if a target is attempting to sunder an target’s shield.

Strength / Size: Shields are often heavy and cumbersome. If your character does not have sufficient Strength to use it, she cannot perform at peak efficiency. If your character’s Strength is lower than that required for their shield, her Physical Skills suffer a -1 penalty when used.
